I’m listing this basket for a family friend… The story is; her uncle sent the basket home while he was stationed at the Naval Base on Adak Island Alaska during WWII in the early 1940s. He did not make it home from the war . This basket was stored on a shelf in a spare bedroom for over 60 years and has faded. Due to a death in her family she’s asked me to sell a few things for her. I am not a basket expert and don’t have access to one so I’ve loaded 12 photos so you can get a good look and I’d be happy to email you more photos if you’d like just let me know. I’m listing 3 baskets for her…be sure to check out the others. This one is different from the first two I have listed, it was not in the trunk with the other 2 and she is guessing that her uncle sent this 1 home also??? Again check out all the photos and if you need more just let me know. This basket has wear and fading that I’d guess to be typical of a basket this age. There is a wear spot on the inside edge of the lid & on the lip of the basket where the weaving comes to an end, this appears to be wear related from the lid being taken on and off through the years (see photos). There are some small areas throughout the basket where the grass weave is missing (I’ve positioned the basket in the photos to show these not hide them). The pattern is faded on the outside of the basket
