Vintage Alps Spacecraft Apollo Rocket Tin Toy MIB I am offering a vintage Alps Made in Japan Spacecraft "Apollo" battery operated space capsule. Circa 1969. This toy comes with the original box. Note that I am not able to get the toy to power up due to a missing contact in the battery compartment. The back has the Alps mountain logo plus the words Made in Japan. Paint is in very good shape with only very light scratches and scuffs. Measures a full 9" inches long. I found an interesting write up about this toy in the book Vintage Toys: Robots and Space Toys: "From our end-of-the-century perspective, it's difficult to recall the amazing engineering feats involved in the 1960s era Apollo space program but amazing they were. Surviving Japanese toy makers sought to shore up sagging demand by capitalizing on the American consumer's fascination with the space program and creating Apollo theme toys, such as Spacecraft 'Apollo,' by Alps. This battery-op mystery actions about the floor as both the nose cone and motor section illuminate, while the top mounted lights revolve. A kind of faithful rendition of the Command Module, Spacecraft 'Apollo' has a reality based artwork package typical for the period. The toy was reissued many times during the next handful of years."
