Presented for auction is this original Vintage travel poster from American Airlines designed by the famous American artist Weimer Pursell. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO MENTION THAT THE LINE YOU SEE ALONG EACH EDGE OF THE POSTER IS SIMPLY MY PIECE OF PLEXIGLASS I PLACED OVER THE POSTER. IT WAS A LITTLE SMALLER THAN THE SIZE OF THE POSTER. THE COLORS ON THIS VINTAGE POSTER ARE VERY BRIGHT AND VIVID WITH NO FADING OR DISCOLORATION. You can see in the 5th picture I took of the area ~TO NEW YORK~ how bright the colors actually are as I did not have the plexiglass over it. It has an absolutly fabulous look as you will see and the entire poster is extremely colorful. It measures approx. 40 inches tall by 30 inches wide. It is in very good condition with the exception of a little edge wear and a few tiny tears in the very edge of the boarder area only. The center portion of this poster is in pristine condition. This poster was found in a local Midwest estate w it has been tucked away for quite some time. It was certainly well preserved and would make a fine addition to any collection. Jeff...************* ABOUT THE ARTIST - WEIMER PURSELLItâe(tm)s a long road from a small town in west Tennessee to Chicago and New York with their big studios and advertising agencies âe" but thatâe(tm)s the road Weimer Pursell traveled in his successful career as a commercial artist and illustrator and a leading abstract artist of his day.Weimer was born in 1906 about sixty miles from Memphis and grew up t He showed strong art talent early, but t wasnâe(tm)t any extra money around in the Pursell household for art school, nor did scholarships grow on trees back then. For several years after high school Weimer worked in a grocery store and saved. When his savings were big enough he headed for Chicago and its renowned Art Institute. He studied at the institute until his money ran out, but by then was an accomplished enough artist to get a job as a package designer and another creating billboard posters. He saved and finally was able to return to the Art Institute to complete his professional training, and marry a fellow art student, Dorothea Sanders. During the years that followed, both in Chicago and New York, Weimer became an eminently successful freelance illustrator. The roster of his clients includes the greatest: he did illustrations for feature articles in Life, Redbook, Town and Country, Newsweek âe" covers for Forbes magazine and Space Aeronautics magazine âe" and an almost endless stream of distinguished artwork for Monsanto, American Airlines, Esso, Lederle Laboratories, Abbott Laboratories (including murals for their Research Building), the Chicago Worldâe(tm)s Fair, American Brakeshoe Company, Coca-Cola, Winchester Rifles, General Outdoor Advertising Company and countless others. Success brought recognition. Weimer was elected a member of Chicagoâe(tm)s "27 Group," a select band of artists, illustrators and designers. His wartime posters were exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art, and he won prizes in the National Travel Poster Contest and in various National Outdoor Poster contests.In 1948, Weimer took a leave from his busy art career to teach. For three years he was the head of the Art Department at what is now the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga w he introduced a course in commercial art.
