THIS IS A VINTAGE TURKISH TASPINAR (CAPPADOCIA) RUG, IT WAS MADE IN TURKEY, IN A REGION WHICH LONG AGO WAS ONE OF THE ANCIENT SETTLED AREAS OF THE SELCUK DYNASTY (PRE-OTTOMAN). IT HAS HANDSPUN WOOL AND NATURAL DYES. IT IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION. BECAUSE IT WAS USED SPARINGLY, ON ONLY VERY SPECIAL OCCASIONS, AND SO IT HAS KEPT ITS GREAT CONDITION. IT WAS WOVEN FROM FIRST SPRING SEASON LAMBS WOOL (LONG ACKNOWLEDGED AS THE BEST) WITH PREDOMINANT MADDER RED AND GREAT INDIGO BLUES. IT IS AN EXCEPTIONAL RUG, VERY FEW OF THIS QUALITY EVER COME UP FOR SALE. A beautiful wool on wool foundation, vintage, 144 kpsi Turkish double Knot, Taspinar Village rug. Vibrant red field containing 1 typical diamond medallion, but muted by age it does not have the typical Taspinar white surround in the center. This rug has stunning impactive and yet harmonised colors with typical Anatolian motif work. Clearly a dowry piece it has been used but is in great condition. Dimensions are 8' X 4 ' 4".
