ELGIN NATIONAL #47 COUNTER COFFEE MILL Manufactured by WOODRUFF & EDWARDS This Elgin National Coffee Mill Grinder is the No. 47 Counter Mill. Although it is not without its problems - t are far more wonderful assets that make it a true find. Made of cast iron, this mill still has its original paint and decoration, of which is in excellent condition. Golden colored lettering and stenciling on this mill still stand out. The inclusion of the catcher for the ground coffee is a plus, plus, plus - as they generally do not have this very important part of the mill. The wheels still turn well and all parts are original. Embossed on each wheel on the outside are the words "Elgin National Coffee Mill", and on the inside of the wheels "Woodruff & Edwards, Elgin, ILL". The mill stands 27" tall and weighs in at 45 pounds, so it is a hefty one. The nickel-plated hopper has taken the most abuse, and as shown by the photos, has obviously taken a few bumps and bruises from being dropped. The hopper damage shows well in the photos, but if you would like additional photos, please let me know early and I can forward them to you. The damage includes what I would describe as fairly large dents, and it has actually broken through at the mid-way part of the hopper. The only other damage to the mill is on the cast iron base (the catcher covers it up though!), w it looks like it must have split and has been welded together. This clearly shows in the photos also. For those of you that collect and/or refurbish these mills, this #47 has more going for it than not, and if a replacement hopper could be matched up to it, you would have a wonderful mill. THIS MAKES A GREAT DISPLAY PIECE - you could even display it without the hopper and it still looks nice! Shipping will be via UPS, unless requested otherwise prior to auction close. Insurance is required on this item due to its age.
