Vintage Antique Mixed Lace Curtain Panel, Large Unusual

This large mixed lace curtain panel makes quite a statement! It measures 6-1/2 feet long by about 5 feet across. There are so many themes going on in this piece - the large farm scene toward the bottom; a young woman making a cameo appearance toward the center, cherubs are included in several small windows along with a couple of odd looking Robin-hood-type characters toward the top. The open work includes flowers along with the occasional dragonfly. Rose panels are included along both sides of the girl as well as the edges. A valance is sewn into the top. Some of the small lace windows have mellowed over time and appear a very pale yellow against the cream colored background - you can see this in some of the pictures. At first I thought they might have been replaced but after close inspection I am sure they are original. Personally I think they add character - but want to bring them to your attention. In fact, this panel was hanging in the home as they were liquidating the estate. Pipes in the upstairs froze and broke sending water down some of the walls - so the piece was wet when I purchased it. Because of this I took it home and hand washed it using Biz. I laid it flat to dry but did not attempt to iron it...I will leave that to someone who knows what they are doing with an iron! The panel is not perfect although very nearly so...there are no rips, tears, or stains but it does have some small separations in the netted areas.
