This is an old box in excellent original condition. It is very nicely made but there are few light dings consistant with use and age. It is an Antique Inlaid Box with a removable lid. I am unsure as to its actual age. I believe it to be Oriental or Asian but there are no marks. Given its detail I believe it to be hand-made but I do not know what its original purpose was. It is lovely proportions having six sides of 5 3/4 inches in length, a diameter of 11 1/4 inches and it is just over two inches tall. The base is think cork which is covered in the inlaid panels (I think they are stone with bone trim) and the inside is lined in velvet. There is a glass sheet in the base which is cut to shape (a few chips around the edges. The underside has a black paper cover which needed to be re-glued one one side where the original glue has dried out. The lid appears to wood with matching inlay and it lifts off with a simple brass button. It is also lined in red velvet. There is a thin layer of varnish which has come off in places but this could obviously be renewed. I have done my best to describe the construction and materials.
