Up for auction is a poosible civil war era soldier hat. It is a wool material on outside, a leather brim which is loose on one end. It actually is detatched. 95 is on the front in metal pins, and t is a leather straps that may meet under the chin. No pin on the end of strap to fasten the straps together, but I believe they may have joined with something at one time. Inside rim is leather, and a cotton inside. This hat was purchase at an estate sale, so I'm not 100 percent sure of anything I said. I'm guessing because of other things we have seen on ebay. We believe or we were told it may be a civil war era soldier hat. T are no makers marks that I can see. The brass type pins that hold the straps on the hat have a design but I don't understand if it stand for something or its decorative. 10 inches long, by 6 wide, by 3 deep. Ask any questions and I will try to answer. Not bad shape for the age, but not near mint. Thanks for looking and please check out my other auctions. Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end. Sold as is, no refunds. Buy insurance, as this item is delicate. Thank you for posting the additional button photo. It appears to be a GAR button. The GAR, or Grand Army of the Republic, was an organization made up of former Union soldiers. This hat probably dates to the period 1880-1920. Ron
