First of all let me say: The buying/selling/owning of ivory - within the boundaries of the United States - is completely legal . It's easy to see where some people get the idea that it isn't, but they are mistaken. The importation of most types of ivory was made illegal by international treaty in 1990; so it's true that you cannot legally sell/buy across international borders. But, within the USA, you can buy/sell/own so-called "old estate" ivory (ivory that was here before 1990, which was grandfathered under the treaty) without restriction . Here's what eBay has to say on the subject . What I'm selling here is in fact "old estate" ivory, which was used for piano keys on a piano manufactured during the Depression era (1930's) or earlier. So, ! There's nothing shady going on here. Now, what we have here is a large lot of genuine ivory piano key tops from a single piano manufactured by the Schiller Piano Company of Oregon, Illinois, between the years of 1890-1936. Without utilizing some resources for which I would have to pay, I cannot establish provenance with any more certainty than that. However, given the company's history, I can say for sure that the piano in question was manufactured prior to 1936 (when Schiller was purchased by the Cable Piano Company).
