I'm pleased to offermy fourth vintage Georg Jensen piece which I am selling on behalf of afamily member. She bought all of her Jensen pieces directly from the Jensen store when it was on Fifth Avenue, NYC, between the 1950's and 1970's. During this period, Jensen sold fine jewelry made by artists other than Jensen designers. This is one such example. It is a stunning sterling silver and amethyst necklace attributed to the Taxco master ANTONIO PINEDA or his studio under his direction.
Pictured in the Mexican Silver Book by Morrill and Berk pg.145. The amethysts are extremely high quality with deep color and minor natural inclusions. Every piece on this necklace is individually hinged. The clasp is tight and well made. It measures about 14 1/2 around - or about 7 1/2 long x 5 1/2 wide inside. Marked Taxco Mexico 970 and some worn letters. Has an eagle 3, and a hallmark of what looks to be MGP (worn P) for Maria Pineda, as documented in the Hougart book of Mexican Hallmarks, who produced for Antonio. According to Hougart, Antonio Pineda co-stamped pieces with this maker and others such as Los Castillo, to fulfill his production requirements. For some reason this one didn't receive the Antonio crown mark. However, one can find the this same necklace (PIN0103NEC) with the Antonio hallmark and compared them side-by-side on the Trocadero website (/Estate 925). It is very clear that this necklace was smithed to Antonio's specifications by a master who obviously worked for him. The construction is identical - the 970 silver, the link dimensions, the finish, right down to the rear hinge details and cabachon clasp. Note the amethyst are set without backing so the light shines through, was the solid stones are backed. The only defect of note is a chipped amethyst stone in the clasp (see picture.) It would be behind the nek of the wearer so would not be noticeable. The necklace comes in the original Georg Jensen case. is your chance to own a rare and breathtaking vintage necklace for much less than the same piece having the crown stamp. Please see my other vintage Georg Jensen piece listed.
