Very nice bronze Medal / Medallion issued to commemoratethe centenary of Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 1932. Designed by the renowned artist Marcel Rau ( 1886 – 1966) famous for his Art deco studies and sculptures, and now becoming highly sort after in the Art market, also bears his name “RAU” on the left very left column to the artistic reverse. The obverse (I’m presuming that’s the title side) shows the “Heads” of the Directors of the Royal Conservatory over the 100 year centenary period, FETIS: GEVAERT: TINEL: DU BOIS: JONGEN. The obverse shows 3 revealing sensual Femmes which I think depict the 3 Muses (Goddesses) of the Arts... Drama, Dance and Music, all for which the Conservatory is renowned. The inscription to the piece reads........”CENTENAIRE DU CONSERVATOIRE ROYAL DE MUSIQUE DE BRUXELLES 1832 – 1932” and has the names as above under the busts of the directors. Also has a very tiny name stamped in the rim which seems to read FISC/8CLE, so small it’s very hard to read, even with eyepiece, possible it relates to the mint where it was produced? Condition is what one would expect of a piece that is over 80 years old and has been handled and admired over the generations, there are odd minor marks and scuffs and small dings to the edging, I have added the super size picture option to the listing to act as a visual description read more
