Great early black helmet with brass fin and medallion on front. It has a small brim on front. Leather strap is in fair condition with minor cracking. Brass medallion has red background painted on. Inside measurements are 7 1/2" front to back and 6 1/2" side to side. Outside measurements are 10" front to back, 7 1/4" side to side, and 8" top to bottom. I cannot tell what the actual material of the helmet is, but the trim is all brass. If you have any further questions or need clarification, please email me and I will answer them to the best of my ability. I have been notified that it is not French, as I originally thought, but one from Austria from a volunteer fire brigade.
