BACCHUS HEAD I bought this at an estate sale...because it is unusual and has an historic background. This Head comes from the old "Palace of Fine Arts" in San Francisco (1916) before it was renovated. It is incredible looking and would it not lokk fantastic displayed in one of our local Wineries! or in your rec room where you keep your wine!It came with a very old typewritten note that gives the background and its origins. Here is what the note says: " This is BACCHUS , the god of wine and revelry in Roman Mithology ; identifies with the Greek Dionysys. A number of these forms apppeared at the top of outside comumns on the Palace of Fine Arts Building, San Francisco, California. This building was specially constructed for the Panama-Pacific Internatonal Exposition held the latter partof 1915 into 1916. At the time of remodeling, in about the latter 60's many ornaments and decorations were given to workmen that were interested in such memorabilia. Bacchus was later given to Ronald Roberts, for his wine room, by his very good friend, Harold Hinton of San AnselmoCa. At the time he was forced to move into smaller quarters due to illness. It had been given to Hilton by an acquaintance, a workemn at the building during renovation, who did not have the space to accomodate such large item" So,, there hou have its background. I am doing a
