VINTAGE BANCROFT PLAYERS SPECIAL TENNIS RACQUET 4 5/8 M

This is a lightly used BANCROFT PLAYERS SPECIAL tennis racquet from the 1970s era. 5 digit registration number is hand written on one side of the neck. Side of the neck reads DESIGNED BY RALPH V. SAWYER for TOURNAMENT PLAYERS . Ralph Sawyer was the engineer who designed both the Jack Kramer Autograph for Wilson and the Pancho Gonzales Autograph for Spalding . Sawyer then designed this Bancroft frame using the same white ash as the Spalding Gonzales, substituting bamboo for maple as the hard outer layer of wood.
The racquet is in solid structural condition, with no cracks or warping of the head. The top of the head has a few small nicks but no significant play wear. The white neck binding on one face has a few small marks. Base of the neck reads AMERICA'S OLDEST TENNIS MANUFACTURER EST. 1882 .
The grip size listed on the neck is 4 5/8 M . Original leather grip has a few scuffs. Butt cap reads MADE IN U.S.A.
