Big blousylilacs, ribbons and ostrich plumes on canvas weave cotton c. 1934 24"repeat 48" wide, 2 pcs. 5 yds., 1 1/2 yds. Part of a collection that celebrates the recently coined term "Hollywood Regency" in our American textile history. Some of the most exuberant and fanciful fabrics were produced between the wars, particularly during the Great Depression. The floral fabrics in this group, (all over 75 years old and in pristine condition), are a case in point. Festooned with swags, plumes, ribbons, bows and floral clusters big enough to knock your eye out, they sent a message via Hollywood films that feathers flowers and frillls equaled romance, elegance and class. Timeless classics from an ages-old archive.... Full Swing Textiles started out in the mid 1980's as a little vintage furnishings and accessories shop down on Lower Thames Street in Newport, RI. The owner of that little shop, Michele Mancini, a RISD graduate, was a collector of vintage textiles who, over 25 years, had amassed a vintage barkcloth collection from the 1940’s and 50’s. Now offering from her private vintage textile collection only the best she has saved from over 40-years.
