Bennington Potters Vermont Art Pottery Pig Bank You're bidding on a very cool, original vintage art pottery bank by Bennington Potters, Vermont, which was founded in 1948 by potter David Gil. Mid century Bennington Pottery pieces are highly collectable and art bank pieces like this one are not common. It's a very stylized, rustically styled pottery, abstract pig, very reminiscent of mid century scandinavian and italian pottery animal figures made by Lisa Larson, Raymor and Bitossi. Gill believed that his work was the result of a creative hand guided by a "spark" of inspiration, and incorporated this "spark" (an asterisk-looking six petaled burst shape) into his backstamp. The spark portion of the backstamp, versus the whole stamp, was used to sign many pieces. This pottery piece is particularly interesting because it looks like the spark, or a rustic representation of the "burst" was also used to as decoration and to denote the eyes. VERY COOL!A beautiful art pottery piece! Very low starting bid with NO reserve. MARK : Impressed on the bottom, but very difficult to read clearly is "Bennington Potters Vermont" along with some other impressed markings which are hard to read. It also looks like the Bennington hand stamp with burst is stamped between the front legs. SIZE : 8" x 5" x 5". Weighs a very solid 1 lb, 7 oz. CONDITION : Beautiful, read more
