are Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy in all their ceramic glory as crafted by the English chinaware firm Beswick. Earliest forms of this set were made in the 1930s; based on the fact that my uncle bought them and that they have plastic plugs, I think they must have been made in the 1950s (apparently Beswick made them up til 1969, but these were in his house before I was running around the place in the early 60s). The two beheaded comedians' noggins rest in a china base that is adorned with their bow ties. Both have their characteristic expressions and some typical surface crazing in the glaze. Set measures about 4 inches tall from base of stand to top of Stan's hat. Poor Oliver suffered a fall at one point and a resultant cranial injury--t is a crack running from back of one ear over hte top of his hat, but he doesn't appear to have ever split in two as the crack does not run all the way around his entire head or across the bottom. He feels sturdy and the flaw is not visible from the front, and he even can still be used to sprinkle condiments on your food. Hope someone can use these as a gift for the Laurel & Hardy collector in their life, or even just as a weird addition to your salt and pepper shaker collection!
