For the next few weeks, I will be starting ALL of my Betsy doll auctions--the GOOD dolls, BETTER dolls and the BEST dolls--with a beginning bid of 99 cents. I believe one reason is because their faces have been hand painted and they come in such a wide variety of skin colors. This one is the version with eyes openings that were cut so that the eyes are open wider. This girl is so innocent, yet perky looking! Please read the complete description BEFORE you bid. She is lovely, clean and ready to dress and display--or to be played with by your favorite little 'alive' girl. You will find that I am very picky in my description. Betsy’s positive points: -- thick, BLOND or DARK BLOND hair rooted into a skull cap with BOTH ORIGINAL BARRETTES and NO BALD SPOTS -- pretty face complexion with NO CHEEK RUBS, no missing facial paint and just the right amount of blush -- lovely BLUE eyes with perfect upper lashes -- eyes open and close on their own—with a little shake, they’ll even flutter at you -- arms are on original rubber band, not loose, and will hold poses nicely (A little band has been added inside of the original to help it hold snuggly.) -- head is snuggly held by its original rubber band, a little bit loose, but still allowing for many poses -- knees bend with ease and hold a pose well -- only seam cracked is the crotch (see description below) -- clean, lighter pink EVEN SKIN TONE overall—not faded or yellowed by exposure to the sun or cigarette smoke -- NO STAINS -- no thin dark crack/stress lines on the lower legs which is often seen on these vintage dolls -- McCall mark in a circle on her back -- This girl CAN SIT with a gentle pressure on her hips, however, she will need a stand for standing balance. -- Her legs are stable enough to allow her to STAND FAIRLY EASILY ON HER OWN with very little, careful positioning of her arms and legs (a little swingy as are most). She will still need a stand for safe display. Not-so-positive points: (I am being very, very nit-picky about things that some other Sellers wouldn't have bothered listing and which may have gone unnoticed without my mentioning them. I do not believe that they take from her loveliness, nor her collect ability. Some issues are very minor and some may be important to you) -- rubber skull cap is in vintage condition, considering the rubber is over 50 years old—there are 2 small tears/cracks on the edge under her bangs, one on the right side near the barrette and one in the back—all are hidden by her hair -- crotch seam has narrowly opened (about ‘2 hair’s width’ wide); lower left side seam has begun to open (about ½” long, but it holds together so you can’t tell unless you actually try to pull it apart) -- each knee has one small crack and slight flare -- back of torso is lighter than the front, like the front and back were from different dye lots of plastic and glued this way at the factory Clothes: Betsy is wearing the ‘Buds and Flowers’ print version of the Basic outfit that Betsy dolls came dressed in from the 1958-1963.
