Vintage Big W ranch saddle in excellent condition! Who ever owned this saddle for the past 30-40 years took very good care of it...no issues whatsoever, other than it looks like a puppy ( or naughty bored horse) got to the back saddle stings ( they are a bit chewed and crunchy) This is a X-wide gullet saddle, for those of you that have heavy shouldered /mutton witd or a bit "chunky" sized horses, this is the saddle for you..it sports a true 7 3/4 gullet, which is an inch or more wider than the modern Full QH Bar saddles. ( The bar spread at the wither/shoulder, measured from inside/underside of the saddle, is a full 12 inches.) If you ride your draft horses this is the saddle you have been looking for!!! . The tree is Ralide, and is 100% sound. This saddle is double rigged with steel-rings, 7/8 set in front, and with original flank straps in the rear ( sorry, no flank cinch included) and the rigging is in perfect condition. This is a ranch style saddle...comfy for all day riding, with a 16 inch padded smooth leather seat. The seat is fairly deep for a ranch saddle, and it puts you in the pocket with a fairly high cantle, and swept back swells: this is a saddle that you ride "in" rather than on, and it provides a very secure feeling seat in case your trusty trail mount decides to toss a buck or two at you (-: It's not quite a bear-trap seat, but it's certainly a saddle that you can "stick" when the going gets rough. The leather is top grade, tooled/stamped over 90% of the saddle, and the leather is live and supple, and the tooling is crisp over most of the saddle ( showing some wear w you would expect it to...fenders and over the swell) The leather on the horn is starting to wiggle a bit, but it's just the leather....the horn itself is 100% solid. The stirrup adjustments are blevins type, in good working condition, and the leathers have a lot of adjustability, from 30 to 37 inches, center of seat to foot rest of stirrup. The fleece undersaddle is in excellent condition, no tears or holes, and is a poly-blend material, typical of a shop saddle made in the 70s. Big W is a very reputable maker, that made well crafted mid-range saddles in that time period...you still see a fair number of them being used, and they are built to hold up to hard wear and use, while being comfortable to ride. Specs for this saddle: Smooth leather seat 16 long by 12 wide with moderate padding. Double rigged and double skirted, with a total length of 24 1/2 inches. 7 3/4 inch gullet with x-full QH bars and then some...for the wider ride! ( I have pics on file of this saddle on both a full draft and a half draft...just ask, and I'll send them to you) 13 inch sweptback and slightly undercut swells. 3 inch cheyanne roll cantle, and a moderate seat rise. Blevins type buckle adjustment and leather wrapped and tooled original bell stirrups, in excellent condition. Polyblend fleece undersaddle liner in excellent condition. 2 1/2 high by 2 1/2 wide horn, not roper wrapped. Ralide tree, lightweight but strong. Total saddle weight of about 30 lbs. Shipping is flat rate $40.00 to the lower 48...and no, you won't be able to get it cheaper looking for alternate quotes. (Sorry all...I am just really tired of the shipping calculator being off, and losing money on shipping, and debating with buyers the cheapest way to ship. I ship UPS ground, and $40.00 will cover most of my expenses in materials and the gas for getting the box to the Pack and Mail location 40 miles from my farm.)
