Early barrel shape Blue Onion Oatmeal Canister from C 1900 cereal / spice set. Note that the Oatmeal canister has a crack that runs nealy top to bottom just to the right of the "O" with two chips in the rim at the top of the crack. The canister has been like this for decades and it doesn't take anything away from it's charm. Height is approximately 7". Diameter of top opening is 4". Canister has a wonderful antique patina with minor imperfections as should be expected. I do not have the original lid. The lid that comes with the canister is a wooden lid that has been with this canister for as long as I can remember...over 40 years. My mother gave me the canisters but my interests have since changed. I would love to see them go to someone who will appreciate them again. The canisters were made in Germany for the American market c 1892-1900 and are guaranteed to be an original German made blue onion canister of the period stated. Colors are bright and unfaded. The clear overglaze is thick and shiny. This was decorated with stencil technique. Add this to your set or start a collection. The original sets usually consisted of fifteen pieces: six large canisters (flour, sugar, coffee, tea, oatmeal, rice, barley) and six small ones (cinnamon, allspice, pepper, ginger, cloves, ginger), a salt box and oil and vinegar cruets.
