Vintage BOJ Turtle Hotel Bell Up for bids in this auction is a truly unique vintage BOJ wind-up hotel turtle bell with a clockwork mechanism. The bell works well and makes an impressive ringing sound when you press either the head or tail. Measures about 4 3/4 inches long. The turtle appears to show a slight bit of age, but overall physical condition is very good. This is a nice example of the damascene art for which Toledo, Spain, is famous. Gold is applied to an iron or steel background and fired in a bluing process so the base material darkens, causing the bright gold to stand out in striking contrast.
