Did you ever have something you simply liked & really didn't want to part with? Yep, that's me with this ol' saddle, but it's time, so ... it is ...

I don't want to just give it away, so t's a REASONABLE RESERVE . Be fair with your bids and you'll get it.

A good vintage marked J.C.Higgins hard seat saddle. Scarce one, too: 15" size, which alone is unusual, but this is the rare square skirt version. Most JCHs that you see are the standard 14" Bona Allen round skirt design.

This is a true collectible, cool lookin' center-fire rig that's great to display but is still safe, sound & supple enough to use if you feel the urge.

New fleece last year, sewn back through the original holes(see last pic) All 8 strings & the rope strap are new, too.

Exposed stirrup leathers are original, with correct tooling pattern(see last pic) & original buckles. Correct metal banded wood stirrups.

Tree is sound, has zero give or flex at fork, horn or cantle. Cap is tight & cantle beading is perfect. Tooling is clear & sharp, even on the seat back surface. Maker's mark is easy to read.

Good for a SASS or mounted shooting saddle too, got the right look.

You can probably date it better than I can, my guess is from late 1920s. What I know is that it's the real thing. The Bona Allen Co of Buford, Ga made the J.C.Higgins saddles for Sears Roebuck, who owned (still do, I think) the Higgins sporting goods brand-name.
