The Roger & Gallet company remains a maker of fine fra grances. Although Armand Roger and Charles Gallet purchased the company in 1862, it was started by Jean Marie F arina. He created a cologn e for Napoleon and his officers in 1806. The container he designed for this cologne was a long, thin bottle - so that it could be slipped into their boots. You know that famous painting of Napoleon crossing the Alps? I'll never be able to look at it again without wondering if he was traveling with his cologne. But - on to the item. The cardbo ard box is labeled "Hand Pressed Pow der Roger & Gallet New York" The side shows that it is "Fleurs D'Amour No 2003" (that is not referring to the year. research indicate d that this i s from the 1950's? ) so we have Flowers of Love and "Nat urelle" The Natural shade of powder in this case is fairly pink. The 3 1/4" diameter compact is stored in a soft cloth camel colored pouch with the Roger & Gallet name once again. Due to the name on the box, I'm guessing the cherub/angel in the design is a cupid, and he is shown tossing flowers from a bouquet as he flies above a suggestion of clouds. I believe it is made of brass. It opens by way of a push clasp. Below the clasp it is marked "Roger & Gallet New York Paris". Beneath the back hinge is marked " Made in USA" and the bottom with a design of concentric
