This old brass corkscrew has advertises Browns of Chester Crypt and is quite an unusual item. The casting of the Crypt has an almost 3D effect and the words “13 th Century Crypt” runs along the bottom. The Crypt itself dates back to around the year 1290 and in the early 1800s Browns of Chester used the later building above as a department store. The first modern recorded use of the Crypt was by a wine merchant who was allowed by Browns to store his wine there. The piece is in good all round vintage condition and measures 12.3 cm (just over 4 ¾ inches) in length. The reverse of the corkscrew has a registration number “RD 312922” which dates the design to the 1920s. There is also a smaller stamped number which appears to read “14522” although I don’t know its significance. Second class postage within the UK will be £2.90. Shipping to Europe by airmail will be £3.50. Airmail small packet to the rest of the world, except for Australasia, will be £4.50 whilst to Australia it will be £4.70. Payment in Pounds by Paypal, cheque, Postal Order or cash. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. xd7 - 0826
