Vintage (c1930) Cobalt Dip Jasperware Jug This may not be Wedgwood Jasperware (please note this) but it is a piece of some considerable quality and so I offer it because of this. It is a wonderful baluster shaped piece, a water jug I believe but I have heard them referred to a syrup jugs. Whatever its use, it is seen here in an attractive blue dip. Measuring approximately 19cm in height, 16.5cm at its widest point and with a base diameter of around 7.5cm this piece features white bas-relief images of 7 of the 9 Muses to a mid-tone blue dipped body. In addition to the images the jug features a flowerhead banding to the lower portion and an even more elaborate rim section of box banding, Acanthus leaf tips and hi-relief beading . The handle is glazed white, as is the interior, the rim has a pewter mount that would have had an associated hinge lid.The piece is impress and incise marked to ts base, as per the additional image. There is some discernible age to the piece judging by the rim fixing but it is still more vintage than antique. Stylistically I would say this is a late Deco period piece. With the obvious exception of the missing lid this jug is in overall excel lent condition.
