This Auction Features:

A Very Nice Cairns and Brothers Firemans Helmet..From Private Estate.when Purchased, the Helmet was sold as a low eagle black Leather Firemans helmet.I do not know what this means or if it is correct, but the model no#s can help you tit does seem to be genuine stiff leather, the model no#s should be checked for accuracy as a detailed complement to the description..The Helmet is from a small town in Illinois, I just do not know the town.it Has Excellent Heavy stitching on the Thick Leather Crest and other areas. The Crest Reads-' VFD '- on the front in white block letters .The leather Crest also has six metal Factory Rivets Attached with the stitching.Behind this, is a Brass-Plate Metal 'V' Cradle that reads: FD , With a Ladder, axe, and Fire Hydrant on a Red outlined ' FD ' Insignia. The Brass Metal Cradle is Slightly Bent to the side..The Model is No# 900 as stated on the Tag inside and it would be a good idea to use this for your research as I can give you a description and condition, but Not its Exact Vintage.I believe I can be safe to say the helmet is from the 1940s-60s Period. The Model No# should clear that up.all the tags are present and still great, not new, but great without any issues and are complete, Just Like the Helmet itself. The stitching is Excellent all around without any Separation or frays. T are two Tan Canvas Head liner's ->'Flaps'-, with one having red felt or cloth on the reverse side and a strip of stitched leather at the Front top.the other Tan flap is light brown on the reverse, and has a draw string to tighten the flap Liner. Both inside Liner and Flaps are in Very Nice Condition without any tares or rips and are still very stout, strong, with great Stitching.the Double flaps are a long, over the ear and forehead type for emergencies, and can also be folded in when on the head.T is a Chin strap that shows Normal Vintage wear with a some Minor rust spots on the strap from the metal Buckle and a Baby Pin attached to the strap at the other end to hold a fold on the strap together on a metal ring, but still in good stout condition and can be used without problem. This is minor and is mentioned for detailed description purposes, as are all of this description. Please see Pics for more detail.T are 3 Tags inside The helmet and an X Crossed style strap inside the liner for head Protection when worn. one Tag Reads : cairns and Brothers, Clifton, N.J.,Made in U.S.A., Size 7-7/8. The other Tag at the Top inside reads : Model No #900 , size 7-1/8 to 7-3/4 Large-Adj.,Lining C&E, Order 86948 and the instructions to adjust the size and reads: cairns and Brother,

inc. Allwood, Clifton, N.J. The 3 rd Tag is the Patent Tag and No#s and reads: Cairns Sanitary Cushion Lining .The inside is very Nice still and is in great normal vintage condition, without any issues. The back of the helmet has a D Ring for hanging..The Helmet Features a Large Splash Sheild by 'Plectron' .The shield has some Normal Vintage scratching and scuffing, but still can see through very well.on The right side w the shield bolts to the helmet, t are 2 washers Missing..These can be replaced for Pennies and does not affect the Excellent Vintage Condition of the helmet.of course the helmet has seen some fire fighting action and has Normal scratching, Minor Normal aligatoring, and scuffing and t, which one would expect. The Crest has a very Minor Larger scuff w it looks like something hit the helmet above the 'F' on the Crest. But the Helmet Bears No Tares, rips, Nor Breakage. The Rim On the Brim is an Excellent Braided type design and shows no damage.I have not dusted, cleaned nor Polished this Classic Helmet -{'I do not Polish, dust, Etc, items such as this, as collectors dislike the Practice' }.im being as detailed as Possible and this is reflected in the long description..The Condition Of This Great Piece of History is in Excellen...
