Vintage Cameo of a Youthful Psyche, Goddess of the Soul Cameo Description: For your consideration, a well carved shell cameo depicting Psyche, Goddess of the Soul. Her symbol, the butterfly wing, appears both in her hair and by her shoulder. This is a youthful Psyche, as her features are softly rounded and she is gently smiling. Her hair is contained within a circlet and ends in a loose bun, with tendrils of her hair escaping. The carver used the color of the shell to its best advantage, highlighting the hair with a darker color. The carver has included some nice decorative detail in the butterfly wings, by placing a zig zag down the center of each wing.The cameo is in wonderful condition, with no chips or cracks. T are several small striations in the shell, however they are only visible when held to the light. The cameo is crisply carved, with negligible signs of wear. A fabulous cameo to wear or for your collection. Stunning! Frame Description: The cameo is encased in a sterling filigree frame, with a small gemstone (diamond?) adorning the base of the frame. The filigree is in excellent condition. The frame is marked "Sterling" on the reverse. T is a working locking clasp, which may have been a replacement, however, it is in keeping with the style and age of the cameo. Dating: Edwardian, early 1900's Size: The cameo itself
