Camillus Sailors Knife with Marlin Spike Maker: Camillus New York USA on Tang This is an ordinary sailor's knife with a single sheepfoot blade. Most ordinary sailor's knives are at least 4" closed. This knife is 4 1/2" closed frim bolster to bolster. It has an auziliary folding marlin spike on the back which is used in splicing rope and fancy knotwork. The spike locks open, the bail above the back bolster will unlock the spike by pressing down. These knives are some time called "Riggers" knives. Condition: I use Levine's Guide to Knives to grade the condition of all my knives. This knife is NKCA near mint. It has a few minor light scratches/blemishes. Most of the original finish is present. Light cleaning has been done. Age of knife and year made are unknown, made some time after WWII. Knife seams to be stainless steel with brass bolster linnings. Handle materal is some type of dyed bone, dark redish brown color. Blade appears to have original edge. Measurments: Overall length, closed, from bolster to bolster is 4 1/2", blade is 3" L sheepfoot design and 1/8" T and tapers to cutting edge. Marlin spike is also 3" long from edge of bolster, with a locking bail above. Both blade and spike snap crisply when opened or shut.
