WONDERFUL VINTAGE LIGHTED BAR SIGN Carling Black Label Beer This is a lighted sign from a collection of my father's that we are just finished liquidating. During early September, 1970 we moved into a home that came complete with both a speak easy bar from the 1920's and a pool table installed in the basement. We became the center for social life in my dad's circle of friends. T were holiday parties, birthday parties, pool parties, parties to celebrate everything (and, on occasion, parties to celebrate nothing but friendships that had been ongoing for more than 50 years.) This sign was t As with everything that came with the house, every member of my father's circle speculated on the age and origin of this piece. I have heard one guy say that he thought this was from the 1930's but the electric switch and the plastic housing of this piece doesn't seem to indicate an age that far back. I could be wrong and he could be right or someone reading this may know more and I would really appreciate hearing what information you can offer. As it is, we are selling it to the highest bidder. My personal opinion is that this is from the era between the 1940's and 1950's. But I ain't guaranteeing dating information because nothing flat out tells me anything certain. T's no reserve and, due to the age of this piece, t's no promises. It lights every time and can hang on a wall. It plugs into any socket in the USA. The black metal 'box like structure' on the back (check out all the pictures) makes the compass part of the piece assume just the right angle for the light to illumine the face of the sp and the compass. The plastic bubble is still pretty clear (as in not yellowed very much for a piece this old - must have been the lack of UV light in the basement all that time...) and the housing and trim are complete and unbroken. The wiring is sound and t will be included a small bag of extra lights to 'change the mood' as your own mood (or the holiday) dictates. One thing that I have learned selling stuff on Ebay for over twenty years, we aren't going to clean it for you. In the early years, I was verbally assaulted on more than one occasion for cleaning something that "should have been shipped with the patina of age intact". You get it all with the highest bid. A great vintage beer/bar piece and the vintage 'extras' it has acquired over more than 40 years of use and display. All the scuffs and all the character are yours to enjoy or alter as you see fit. The overall size of the piece is about 16.5" wide x 18" high and protrudes about 8" from the surface of the wall at its' thickest point. ALSO: Regarding the photos. I took some in total darkness with the sign lit and they just didn't have the detail I wanted. These may not offer a true sense of how much light this puts out but (depending on the color of the bulb you choose) it can be substantial. IF you need an "in the dark" picture to bid, just ask and I'll send what I consider the best one or two. We have enjoyed this for a very long time. Those who came before enjoyed it too at least as much. Now it's [fill in your name ..]'s turn. Bid it up, you won't be disappointed (and my dad will be smiling down on both of us.) "To your sainted mother, lift the glass and drain the draft." The box with loads of 'peanuts' and bubble wrap packaging is going to weigh very near 8 pounds.
