VINTAGE CARVED WOODEN FOLK ART HORSE by DEWEY V. SESSIONS, BOONVILLE, NY. Dewey V. Sessions was born in Boonville, New York, on August 13, 1901, and spent his whole life in the Boonville-Westernville area. For many years, Mr. Sessions and his wife Etta operated a farm on Buck Hill in the town of Western. Mr. Sessions was an employee of the local post office. He was well known for his wood carvings of birds and animals, and he displayed his works both in Rome, NY, and at the Woodsmen’s Field Days in Boonville for many years. Dewey Sessions died on January 16, 1990, at the age of 88.Although Sessions was not a trained artist, he obviously knew what a horse looked like. It is nicely carved, painted, with tack eyes, and trimmed in leather gear. Condition is good, with some small chips, age cracks at the glue joints (especially the tail, one leg, and on the nose). There is also a rough spot on the top of the right ear (see photos). The horse measures 10-1/4 inches in height and 12 inches in length. Signed on bottom: “Carving by Dewey Sessions 1964.” Please see two other carvings by Dewey Sessions listed in my store on ebay.If you have any questions, please email me. Buyer pays USPS shipping costs. Shipping insurance and delivery confirmation costs are included in handling fees. Rates provided upon request.
