Up for bid is a CASE "TESTED XX" Knife Axe/Hatchet Combo. This unit has a patent date of Oct. 22, 1935 , stamped on it. The knife blade is stamped on the tang: Case Tested XX . The hatchet blade is stamped: CASE'S TESTED XX . The leather sheath has snaps that have Case Tested XX on them and is imprinted with the following: Pat. Feb. 5, 1935 . CONDITION: The hatchet or axe blade does not appear to have ever been sharpened, and no hammer has ever hit the top of it (it appears to have the factory grind on it); it only has surface, handling marks. The knife blade is full, having rarely been sharpened; it looks as if someone sat down and sharpened it on a stone on one occasion, putting some scratch marks on it. The stag handles are near perfect, having only aging stress cracks (visible in the pictures). The leather sheath has the basketweave pattern and from looking at the back appears to have never had a belt run through it. The sheath does appear to have been stored in such a way that it it dried out (the strap holding down the knife handle is broken, the snap holding in the hatchet blade has pulled through the leather, there is about a 3/4" split on the pocket that holds the knife blade, and the sewing is coming loose on the side near the sharp edge of the hatchet.
