Antique cast iron gypsy style cook pot with handle & 3 feet. This auction is for an old handled cooking pot, very heavy in cast iron, with 3 legs to stand on. I have no idea as to how old it is - we bought this about 20 years ago and it was of a good vintage when we acquired it. We never tried to 'improve' the piece, so it comes with worn paint and rusty patches - I know some people like to rub down and re-black such pieces, but we quite like the character of the obvious wear. It could be treated to that kind of facelift if you wish, but for now, what you see is what you get, and there's no hiding anything. It does have a small chip to one edge of the rim (- clearly shown on the picture, so you know exactly what you are getting) where a bit of the iron has been chipped away, maybe in a collision with another of these beauties. It is just a surface scar, and has not gone right through and cracked the pot. As mentioned, this is a very chunky piece of hardware so it's very solidly intact - the downside is that it will cost a lot to post! There is no maker's name or identifying mark Not much to add really - check the pictures, ask questions if you wish. The pot part itself is about 11 inches across and 7 inches high and the whole thing about 18 inches from base of legs to the top of the handle. A great piece of vintage ironware. read more
