VINTAGE 1950's CAST IRON HUNCHBACK CAT DOORSTOP DOOR STOP, using Original Hubley Mold! In the 1940's Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, PA started selling their patented castiron casting molds, and s hortly after World War II in 1948, Hubley closed their doors forever. The short-lived IRON ART COMPANY of Chicago, Illinois bought the mold for HubleyâÂeÂ(tm)s popular Hunchback Tabby Cat, catalog #216. I have provided a photo of Hubley's doorstop taken from John and Nancy Smith's popular " The Doorstop Book " ( see last photo ). Iron Art Foundry made few doorstops in the late 1940's and early 1950's, making mostly trivets, mirror frames, and wall sconces. This Black Hunchback Tabby Cat is a wonderful example of HubleyâÂeÂ(tm)s original mold used by Iron Art. It's a two piece casting and is marked on the inside of both pieces " Iron Art " and " LB 63 ", plus impressed with HubleyâÂeÂ(tm)s catalog number " 216 " (see photo), establishing that this was cast from the Original Hubley Mold . I have provided several photos displaying a 1930's Hubley Tabby (not included in this auction) next to this 1940's-50's Tabby. As you can see, since the Original Hubley mold was used, every minute detail in the 1930's cat is also cast in the Iron Art cat. These are very scarce Tabby cat doorstops as the foundry closed after a very short run. They are the only hunchback tabby cats that were produced with HubleyâÂeÂ(tm)s blessings after the closure of the Hubley foundry. Wonderful expression, stance and character!
