This is an early cast iron squirrel nutcracker. More elaborate and earlier than those found on EBAY this week, this nutcracker is very realistic. Painted gray over the years, tail is painted gold. Appears to have been originally painted red. Of unknown age, nutcracker does work by using the tail as leverage, arms move and break the walnut. Great detail in the eyes, tail, ears, and arms. Nice folk art piece. Squirrel is mounted on its original walnut base. Height of squirrel is about 8 1/2" including the tail. Platform is about 3" by 9". Slightly less than lifesize its width is 3". Please see photos. Special thanks to a very observant EBAYER, this squirrel nutcracker has some damage I did not pick up, one is that the tail has been broken and re-welded, two is that the front feet have damage, a portion of the squirrel's feet are missing. Tfore this item is being sold as is. If the buyer is not satisfied I will offer a full refund on this item, based on new information. I will try to add pictures.
