We will also be focusing on supporting youth on the reservation. You have generously met the $40,000 challenge for the safe house and we are in the process of choosing the type of building and working out details. Ground will be broken as soon as weather allows and building will begin. We will keep sending you information and photos as the building progresses . In 2011 we will also begin plans to build a youth center in the Allen area of the reservation. This building and the programs it will house will act as a model for caring for youth throughout the reservation. All that we have done or will do is through your support and faith in ONE Spirit. We are honored by both your trust and the trust of the Lakota people. We are honored that the Lakota people work hand in hand with us and together we are able to raise the standard of living for many on the reservation - to ensure that they have food on the table, a warm place to live and sleep, and a few necessities of life. We will also be standing beside the Lakota community in support of their efforts to change the youth statistics: A large percentage of kids who finish high school and continue to an advanced education. Not a 75% drop out rate. Mentors, guidance, safe houses, and youth centers that provide the kids with a better life today and a vision of a future life worth living. Not an epidemic of suicides. Activities that provide attractive alternatives to gangs, alcohol, and drugs.
