Up for auction is this wonderful vintage Italian Nativity set. The hand painted figures are made of plaster (I believe) molded over wire frames and they vary in height from 1" (sheep lying down) to 2 ¾" (camel herder). The set includes: ~ Manger (or crèche) ~ Mary & Joseph ~ Baby Jesus (resting in a bale of straw) ~ 3 Wise Men ~ 2 Shepherds (one holding a lamb) ~ Camel Herder and Camel ~ 2 sheep, 1 Donkey, 1 Ox ~ Archangel (hangs from a hook at the peak of the manger) The rustic manger measures about 10" wide x 5 ½" deep x 6" tall. It has a wood base and is composed of logs and simulated stone and has a painted backdrop of Bethlehem . The roof is straw over wood, the straw being somewhat loose. The manger is in fairly good condition, but does have some wear, nicks and spots of paint loss. The vintage pieces are in fairly good condition, but some do have wear, chips and paint loss. It's hard to list every single tiny flaw, but are the main ones... The Shepard holding a lamb has piece of the base and back foot missing, with some wire exposed. The standing lamb also has a piece of the back foot missing with wire exposed. Joseph has quite a few spots of chips and paint loss. The Shepard holding a staff has a chip to the hand on his hat and some nicks to his nose and chin. A few of the pieces are marked on the bottom... Mary read more
