VINTAGE CMIELOW THREE SAILORS, 1959 No Reserve! You are viewing an extremely rare vintage stylized trio of sailor porcelain figurines designed in 1959 by L. Tomaszewski. They are signed on the bottom "Hand Painted" and the hand-written numbers "ch/85/4790", "ch/85/4360 JF", and "ch/8531. N." The striped shirt sailor has the original green C inside a triangle stamp and "CHODZIEZ". Theses black and white figurines are original pieces produced in Poland during the 1950's and 1960's. I Chodziez was one of several different companies in Poland that produced figurines in the 1950's and 1960's. While Cmielow is the most recognized name, Wawel, Chodziez, Karolina, Bogucice and others all produced beautiful figurines. They were often designed by the IWP (Institute of Design). Notable designers included M. Naruszewicz, H. Orthwein, L. Tomaszewski, and H. Jedrasiak. The condition for these abstract modernist stylised figural pieces are as follows: Th e "bow tie" sailor has a few tiny lines of paint loss (see photograph below). T he "striped cap" sailor appears to be virtually perfect with no visible flaws. T he "striped shirt" sailor has a chip to his left foot and his neck has been repaired from an unfortunate slippery deck accident. All three figures measure about 6"(15.2cm) tall. You are bidding only on the figurines described above. read more
