Vintage Unused Cocker Spaniel Print Pinochle Playing Cards Sealed Two Deck Set Card Cover Art by Gladys Emerson Cook ca. 1962 This auction is for a mint set of Congress brand Pinochle playing cards, each in its own separate green fuzzy case with gold trim. The elegant buff Cocker Spaniel print on the cover and on each card is signed by Gladys Emerson Cook [1889-1976], well-known artist noted for her great detail of various cat & dog breeds. This cocker spaniel print was included in her book "A Book of Dogs", released in 1962. The cover card is marked "385" underneath art on card on the gold border trim. Gladys Emerson Cook is perhaps best known for her delightful drawings of dogs, many of which were used as book illustrations. She also drew advertisements, including cat ads for Carter's Ink and Puss n' Boots products. She also painted and many original prints. Cook studied at the New York Art Student's League with Anthony Thieme and Yarnall Abbott. She exhibited at The National Academy of Design, 1953-1945; NY Public Library, 1942; Library of Congress; National Arts Club, NYC; Society of Illustrators, 1945; Abercrombie and Fitch, NYC and Bronx Zoological Park, 1941.
