I understand this vintage plate to be one of the early plates used by Sambo's. The later plates had no palm tree on them. The plate is 9 3/4" across, no chips, cracks, nicks, stains or crazing. It is a restaurant plate & it should be expected to have some scratching from being used daily. It was made by Jackson China, Falls Creek, PA. Also has N7 stamped on the back. Sambo's was a chain with over 1200 restaurants scattered thru the states. Researching the history of SAMBO'S , I found this: .It was started in 1957 by two friends : Sam Battistone and Newell Bohnett, nicknamed Bo. Thus the name...SAMBO's...SAM & BO. Their specialty was a mound of pancakes with a 10 cent cup of good coffee. They capitalized on the child's book, Black Sambo, which eventually caused problems with African-Americans ,and closed their doors in the 80's. Actually, Little Black Sambo was a story of a boy in India and his go-rouind with tigers. The restaurants were eventually bought and renamed by various other chains. For your collection or use, it's a nice piece of restaurant or American memorabilia . Any questions, please ask. Thanks for looking
