Vintage Coty Perfume Bottle in Hinged Silver Case *Free shipping for domestic bidders. International bidders see details. I am selling my entire collection of perfume/scent bottles over the next few weeks to make room for my ever growing collection of angels, so be sure to check out my other auctions. You are bidding on an early Coty perfume bottle in a hinged silver plated case. The case opens to reveal a metal holder with the word "Coty" cut out on either side. A small glass perfume bottle sits within the holder. When you open the case, the holder can swing out so you can see the bottle from either side. The tiny perfume bottle has a satin glass stopper. T is a wire wrapped around the neck of the bottle. Also, an embossed design in the glass encircles the bottle. On the bottom of the bottle is the Coty logo, the word "France" and what appears to be the letters "SI" embossed. T is no label on the bottle. Engraved on the front of the silver plated case is a crown, a perched eagle with 3 stars within a circle and the word "Coty". The metal case measures 2 1/2" tall and 1 3/8" wide. When completely open, the case measures 2 1/2" wide. The inside bottle holder measure 1 1/4" wide and 1/2" tall. The case snaps shut and works well. The perfume bottle measures 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/9" wide and approximately 1/4" deep. The silver plated case is in good condition. T is a small area on the front that is beginning to flake. The bottle is in very good condition with no breaks, cracks or chips. Revised: after a question from a member, I looked at the bottle through a magnifying glass...t are some tiny chips around the inside rim of the bottle opening & also around the end of the stopper. They are undetectible with the stopper inserted, but they are t I tried to get pictures but my camera doesn't take close up shots of small items without blurring. During the Renaissance, they were used mostly by the gentry to mask less than desireable personal and community sanitation practices. In the 1600's, perfume and hand wear were often combined as one. When royalty traveled away from their courts, they could simply lift gloved hand to nose to ward off unpleasant odors. France's King Louis XIV furtd the use of cologne by requiring his court members towear it everyday. He is remembered as the 'Perfume King'. W fragrances were once used as an indicator of status, today's colognes and perfumes project a certain image. Fragrances are worn to attract rather than to cover up unpleasant odors.
