The Israel cruise was distinguished in the history of the QE2 by the fact that Libya had planned to torpedo her on her voyage to Israel! Only the intervention of Anwar Sadat of Egypt prevented this occurrence, and ensured that this grand queen of the seas could continue ruling the waves. The UK was aware of the security threat as Arab terrorists had threatened to blow her up, and the QE2 was escorted by military planes and ships while sailing the Mediterranean.
