It’s nothing short of amazing that these C.D. Kenny paper advertisements have survived. The company, wholesale distributors of coffee, tea & sugar, was established in 1870, based in Baltimore, & in 1939 became Sara Lee, the familiar company we know today. Many items were emblazoned with the C.D. Kenny name. Seeking out these varied advertising items is a collector’s dream. I think it is safe to say that these paper die cut “scraps” are rare. Although they are not dated, we know they, at least, must span the years from 1870 to 1939. Made in Germany, each one is 6” high & 1 ½” at the base. The many colors of these Scotch bagpipers are just as vibrant today as they were years ago. They would be marvelous framed. All alike, at one time they were all linked together, but over the years they have been separated from their tabs. The company advertising is on the back of each one. There is a separate little oval that says these were made by RAPHAEL TUCK & SONS. CONDITION: Very nice. I found them lying loose in an old scrapbook of trade cards years ago. I guess they were pasted in once upon a time because they have glue residue on the back Look carefully at the photos & you will note that some of the bagpipe appendages are missing.
