This auction is for a very nice Old Jar that was sold as a vase. It is, however, a Tobacco Jar. It features a man in Stocks being given a pipe by another gentleman. On the back it says "van Rossem's Toeback Anno 1750" On the bottom is marked "Delft Blue Holland" and the number 541 is embossed into the jar. The paint is a beautiful Blue with decorations fitting for the times. T is no lid which is why this person thought it was a vase. But it is a Tobacco Humidor/Jar. I have been told that this was the style made in the 1920s or 1930s for the tourist trade. It still makes a wonderful addition to a Delft Blue or Holland Porcelain collection. It measures 5 1/4" tall and the only problem is a crack that can be seen in the second picture above the "van". No other chips, cracks or stains are evident.
