Vintage Disney Tin Haunted House Mystery Bank - Works!

This auction features a vintage tin litho Disney "Haunted House Mystery Bank". This collectible is probably from '69 or the very early 70's. The Haunted Mansion opened at Disneyland in 1969 and inspired some awesome gifts that were available in various Disneyland gift shops. Besides this treasure, t were personalized tombstones, wooden "puzzle" trinket boxes and glow-in-the-dark postcards. This bank, although it does not really resemble the park attraction, features great graphics of a delapidated, broken-shuttered, crusty old two-story home that is "haunted" by coin-snatching ghost! To activate this avaricious apparition, simply place a coin on his front doorstep, and this dreadful domicile sparks into action! The light turns on, and slowly, the doors pivot open as a wee fearsome figure slowly floats out over the coin and then snaps abruptly back into the sanctuary of his home, sweeping his prize into hidden recesses of his abode. The coins are safely held underneath the mansion in a screw-on compartment that opens easily with a flat-head screwdriver. The mechanism that operates this bank runs off 2 "D" batteries. Overall, the tin is in very good condition with just a few scratches, but because of the graphics, they are difficult to spot. The plastic on the roof is very nice and bright was the plastic along the bottom has yellowed some from age. T is a tip on one of the corners of the roof that has broken off at some time, and the edge of the roof on the front left side (facing house) is drooping a tad. But, I find it sort fitting with the theme of this mechanical bank. The workings that operate the ghost function well, but may need some cleaning and/or oiling because it takes a moment to activate when you lay a coin on the exposed metal rings. (I will leave that to the winner!) Once activated though, the light is bright and everything works well right down to the final penny snatch! The availability of this particular bank is dwindling due to the fact that without the box, it is difficult to identify this piece as a Disney collectible, and thus, they get overlooked, tossed, donated and trashed over time...so don't miss out now! The Mystery Bank measures - 7 1/2" Tall, 7" Wide at the roof/6" wide at the sides, 8 3/4" from front edge of steps to back edge of the house. Weight before packing - 1 lb / 8.4 oz.
