From Estate in North Texas: Vintage & outstanding, solid Brass Door Knocker of classic Italian Renassiance style featuring a folded Swans neck & head as the heavy, 7 1/4" knocker with floral motifs on neck & hanger plate as well as on the lower, knocking plate. Gilded in gold leaf originally, this outstanding quality, heavy Door Knocker weighs approx four and one half (4 1/2) pounds. Entire assembly spanned about 8" (vertically) as originally mounted on a heavy, solid Hardwood door in a North Dallas Estate. Width of the hanger plate & knocking plate is approx. 3" each base of the neck & ball Knocker about 2 1/2" in width. Classic design & overall detail on each piece is closely matched. Renaissance style, raised relief pattern at center of plates & along the neck consists of an outlined star-burst of leaves with arrows & flower buds between on each, and is replicated in the florals & leaves on the Swans neck as well.(See Photos) A 3/8" iron bolt of approx. 2 1/2" length protrudes from back of both Knocker & Plate, each being fitted with screw-on nuts & flat washers for mounting, so the door must be at least 3" in thickness to recess the hardware on the interior side. The surface gilding (gold leaf) has been well worn by hand use, weather, & time, of course. It is almost gone from the grip section of the Swans neck, though still quite read more
