This is a round-label era Herman Miller Eames 670 lounge chair . I have identified this chair a manufactured prior-to 1971. It's appeal is to the collector looking for an aunthentic vintage Eames lounge chair with its original finish. You won't go wrong to buy this particular chair if you want a vintage, lived-in chair. The cushion fill indicated on the tag is 50% latex foam rubber, 30% grey duck feathers, 20% down. This chair has the unmistakable class of a real vintage Eames 670 lounge. It has also been lived-in and makes no apologies for it's age. As you can see from the photographs, it presents the classic profile that makes this chair an unmistakeable icon of 20th century design and an essential piece for the collector. The laminated wood parts are not busted-up or delaminated and while I wouldn't call this a museum quality example, it is definitely worthy of a serious mid-century collection. You can sit in the chair and it flexes and pivots silently on bronze bushings. I've replaced two missing screws in the undercarriage, where it attaches to the bottom shell. The screws I had on hand in the correct thread pitch are stainless steel socket cap machine screws. The screws I used are a bit too long, so I used washers undeneath. You can see the heads protruding a bit in the pictures. The threads are not a common size, but you should be able to order better matching screws, if desired, online or get them from a well-stocked hardware store. I have inhaled deeply of this chair's aroma and I can't smell tobacco at all . The Rosewood has a uniform straight-grain and it is difficult to see the seams where the veneer leaves are matched. Whether straight-grain rosewood vs. wild grain rosewood matters to you is a matter of your tastes in wood, but it seems to me the straight grain is easier to match with other chairs and pieces you may acquire. The finish is original . The leather is original and shows wear, but is serviceable and will last many more years with good care. You may want to replace the leather on the arms immediately since the wear to the leather is most obvious and severe on the arms. The leather on the arms, as shown in the picture, has tears and stitch tear-out. A local upholsterer should be able to give you a price over the phone for replacing the black leather on the arms of an Eames chair. The 5/8" leather covered buttons were missing from the seat and I've replaced them with buttons of the sames size in some shell-like 5/8" buttons. There is damage and tearing to the plastic/fiber under-part of the seat. The damage does not affect the sittability of the chair at all and the parts will be good for many more years. The leather on the seat also shows wear, with a few small tears. None of the tears on the seat show signs of progressing or getting worse. There is some stitch tear-out along the edge of the zipper at one corer in the back - it is not noticeable unless you are poking around examing the chair for flaws. The back cushions are in the best condition. The buttons could be tightened a bit. There may be some wear to the zippers, or minor stitch tear-out along the zippers in one or two places but its not very noticeable unless you're inspecting the chair carefully. Shipping I've posted this auction at a fixed shipping price of $200 in continental USA because Ebay's shipping calculators and freight quote system are not geared to running calculations for something of this nature. If you're outside the continental USA I reserve the right to charge actual shipping if it comes to more than $200. I may update the auction with additional shipping information later. You can also pick it up in Whittier, California. Questions and Inspection If you have pressing questions or concerns, call me at .
