Up for grabs in this auction is a vintage 1942 IndianapolisClown jersey. This gorgeous jersey was made right here in the USA by EbbetsField Flannels, to the exacting standards EFF is renowned for. I bought it way back in 1996 at the Indianapolis Indians store at Victory Field, which had just opened. At the time I thought it was a Hank Aaron jersey because he wore number 5 for the Clowns, but he didn’t do so until 1952 and the style of and “Health” patch on this beauty would make it a 1942 model. It is 100% authentic to 1942 standards: made from luxurious, rich blue baseball wool-flannel, with thick felt lettering and numbering sewn on in dual-layers. The Health patch on the left sleeve is period accurate embroidery. And best of all, this model features the cool old zipper front instead of buttons, which EFF has widely discontinued in recent years as a cost cutting measure. It is part of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Black Diamond Authentic Series and has that label sewn onto the front hem. It has remained in excellent condition for now being about 16 years old. It has no rips, stains, holes, funky smells or the like. The brass zipper still functions perfectly. It is tagged a size large, but please note that it fits a bit more like a size medium by today’s standards. I think this jersey was a custom order exclusively for sale
