A Vintage, Neat, Unique Sewing Box, Sewing Caddy, Table or Sewing Stand from England. The workmanship is good with a very functional design and kind of has a Victorian Flair to it. We have never seen a sewing box made like this one before, with the lift & flip top, bow front and pretty cabriole legs. It can double as an end table, lamp or phone table or even a bedside table. The finish is still pretty good but not perfect, it has a few dings, blemishes & scratches. In all sincerity, the finish is more than good enough to leave alone. It's made of Mahogany & Mahogany veneers. Note how the middle top lifts up then you can flip up the sides of the top, real neat!! It also has very pretty "Ball & Claw" feet on pretty cabriole legs. At it widest point, which is the outside on the cabriole legs it's 19 3/4" wide, 13" deep and 28 1/2" tall. It stands a stately 17 1/2" off the floor. The pretty "bow front" cabinet top is 19" X 14". The middle portion which you lift up first is 14" X 11 3/4". The 2 sides, which flip up & over are 3 3/8" X 12 1/2". The storage area of the box is 16" X 9 1/4" and is about 6 1/4" deep. It has a neat little storage tray or compartment attached to the back wall of the inside of the box. The material is in good condition on the inside of the box. The drawer is 16" X 11 1/4" and about 2 1/4" deep and is divided into 3 compartments. The Patina is a dark Mahogany color. The locking mechanism on the box is gone, yes at one time you could lock it. It has a repair to one of the legs at just about w it connected to the bottom of the box, it looks like the leg split, some one glued it, which was fine, but they also put 3 small nails in it for good luck I guess. I set the nails a little deeper and filled in the holes with a Mahogany fill-in stick, It's not real noticeable, but it's t Also I would guess it's been refinished a time or two. I don't believe the hinges that are on it now are the original ones, they are just a tad smaller but go well with the box. As with any vintage item this age and with it's travels, it has a ding or two and some scratches, blemishes but for being as old as it is, it's a very neat & unique box.
