Vintage English Oak Portable Desk File Box Arts Crafts This listing is for a beautiful portable desk file box. The box is SOLID oak, with outstanding wood grain and a wonderful mid-tone finish. The box is opened by raising the lid open on its hinges and pulling down the front (also on hinges). The back of the front becomes a writing area, and you have three long slots for letters, two drawers and three small cubbyholes. I purchased this box, along with several others, in an English container sale. The key shown was included, although I cannot make the lock function properly, and I'll leave that to the buyer........it's not a problem because the box shuts securely via the wood pegs at the top of each side that fit into the lid and keep the box shut. Measurements: 12 ¼"H x 17" x 7 ½"; The letter slots are 14" length. Condition : The box is in good condition for its age, structurally sound, with normal signs of age and use, dings, scratches and other imperfections. Note t are some ink stains inside below the drawers and once again, I could not make the key and lock work properly. The inside drawers have small brass knobs that could possibly be replacement knobs; however, they look fine and it is mentioned for disclosure only. I believe it is worth the few extra dollars to get your one-of-a-kind antique delivered safely to your front door!!
