Available for auction is this beautiful, incredibly early experimental mechanical television brochure. It is one large sheet, folded to create four pages. Opened up, it measures 11 x 16.5 inches. It says, '" TAC" Televisors are Guaranteed for Efficiency . It shows how to order a complete mechanical television set, as well as various tubes. It is beautifully illustrated printed in black and orange and the mechanical television image is just one of the best. My collector husband acquired this as a kid in 1963. He estimates the circa as 1931, since it lists 28 stations, but says that it could possibly be from 1928 or 29, but that 1931 is his best guess. The Television Apparatus Corp., New York, manufactured the merchandise offered in the circular. My husband remarks that this is a wholesale brochure. The prices are incredibly low, even for wholesale prices. The complete mechanical television kit on the first page is priced at only $22.50. The kit was very inexpensive compared to other mechanical television kits of the time. (Even so, my husband says that if his Grandparents had had a spare $22.50 in 1931, they certainly wouldn't have bought some new fangled television devise. It was the start of the depression and times were so hard that they lost their house because they could not make the $5 mortgage payment.) It's assumed that t weren't many of these dealership brochures made in the first place. The fact that one survived in incredible condition is remarkable, especially since it would become outdated and obsolete so quickly. (This is the only one he has ever seen.) This circular was evidently sent in a business envelope, folded, as t are two manufacturer's folds going horizontally across the brochure. T is a rusty mark of an old paper clip on the left side of page one. It is 1 1/8 x ½ inch and can be seen above the 'T' of "TAC". The opening edge has little tears up and down it, and some of the ¼ inch tears are folded back to resemble little dog-ears. When the brochure is opened up, one can see w the rusty marks from the paper clip bled through a little bit. The edges are soft from handling. (The paper used was light-weight stock.) T is an 1/8 inch tear on the folded edge at the bottom of the page. It is in the middle of the bottom edge when the circular is opened up. T are three ¼ inch tears on the left side of the back page. The opening edge of the brochure, as stated above, lacks all crispness. If used for display, I'd inquire from an expert if that edge could be pressed in a dry mounting press to "freshen" and flatten it. Another option would be to just mount it snuggly under a piece of glass. I can mail this brochure between two pieces of cardboard in a USPS Priority Mail envelope for $5.25 anyw in the US. ($4.60 for shipping and 65 cents for tracking.) Insurance is optional, and t is a shipping discount when ordering multiple items. Don't miss the other cool early television items I have up for auction. My husband told me to tell you all to "hold unto your hats", as the best is yet to come, as he is just starting to go through his over 40 year accumulation, which he believes is the largest television literature collection amassed. (It dates from 1911-1954.) As always, please let me know if I may be of any special assistance to you. Please note: that as one of my customers received a Priority Mail envelope that the PO tried unsuccessfully to bend, (thank goodness), I will start adding stiff cardboard to all my envelopes. If anyone has any other suggestions, or would like another shipping venue, please let me know. Best regards, Ruff Endeavors Check out my other items ! Be sure to add me to your favorites list !
